What the "950 Mindset" Represents

The 950mindset isn’t a commercial enterprise designed for personal gain—it is a movement born from pure heart, relentless drive, and an unshakeable commitment to giving back. Built by Neil and the team at SD Carpentry LTD, it represents what happens when community, compassion, and an extraordinary capacity for focus come together to change lives.

How It Began: The Innocent Suggestion

It all started on a routine workday at SD Carpentry LTD. Neil Mills was working alongside his business partners, Kris Osborne and Steve Dynes, when Kris offhandedly mentioned that he’d like to do a bike ride for a children's cancer charity. In most workplaces, a casual remark like that receives a supportive nod and gets forgotten by lunchtime. Neil, however, treated it as a binding contract.

"So, I signed him up, and he was like, 'WHAT?!' So, I said, 'You said it!'" — Neil Mills

Not long after, Kris happened to mention running a marathon. Without missing a beat, Neil pulled the exact same trick and officially entered him on the spot. Realizing that expressing good intentions around Neil brought immediate, irreversible consequences, a legendary workplace rule was quickly established: Kris had to watch every single word he spoke.

What started as a light-hearted prank between partners rapidly evolved into standard operating procedure. Neil began drafting anyone who so much as hinted at wanting to do a good deed—pulling Steve Dynes, friends, family, and colleagues directly into the fold. Soon, the SD Carpentry crew was organizing and competing in a charity challenge every single fortnight, even traveling as far as Johannesburg to build schools.

The Superpower & The 950-Mile Test

At the core of this movement are Neil Mills, Dan Ellis, and Sacha Fuller. All three share a distinct superpower: ADHD hyperfocus. When geared toward extreme physical challenges, this mental fortitude transforms impossible feats into reality.

When Neil announced his ambition to tackle a gruelling 950-mile run, many wondered if it was humanly possible. Pushing through gruelling terrain, Neil suffered catastrophic injuries—his feet became severely blistered to the point of near-infection. Yet, driven by his trademark hyperfocus and sheer refusal to quit, he powered across the finish line.

That single challenge raised £26,145 for Young Lives vs Cancer, pushing the SD Carpentry team’s grand fundraising total to an incredible £60,204.

A Chance Encounter & The Road Ahead

The 950mindset continues to expand its reach. While at local gyms and extending friendships across their network, Neil crossed paths with Chris from The OLLIE Foundation.

The connection began over a simple message written on a gym jumper:

“To the person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it.”

That initial conversation revealed a shared purpose. The OLLIE Foundation was launched in 2016 by three Hertfordshire parents—Chris, Stuart, and Jane—who met through bereavement support after each tragically lost a teenage son to suicide. United in grief, they dedicated themselves to empowering communities with suicide prevention and early intervention skills.

As a father of five, Neil was deeply moved by Chris’s courage and vowed to lend the full weight of the 950mindset to the cause as soon as his initial run was complete. Keeping that promise isn't just about fundraising—it's about honouring a friend, keeping a word, and backing a movement that saves young lives.

Now, the team sets its sights on their next extreme undertaking: John O'Groats to Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Driven by the wider support network of friends, family, and grateful clients, the 950mindset continues to prove that when effort is given entirely for others, extraordinary things happen.

What we do

Strategy and positioning

To position 950mindset for its next phase of growth, here is the strategic layout and operational framework designed to turn this charitable movement into a lasting brand.

BUILT FOR WHAT IS NEXT & WHAT WE DO

950mindset is an ultra-endurance charity engine powered by hyperfocus, physical grit, and radical community support. We do not sell products for personal profit; we build movements that raise life-changing funds for critical causes.

From the 950 miles round the houses to the trek from John O'Groats-to-Leighton Buzzard expedition, we translate human endurance into immediate financial and community impact for organizations like Young Lives vs Cancer and The OLLIE Foundation.

BRAND STRATEGY & POSITIONING

  • Core Positioning: "Purpose Through Hyperfocus." Position 950mindset as the ultimate proof that ADHD and intense hyperfocus are superpowers capable of solving real-world challenges. .
  • The 950mindset Podcast: Hosted by Neil, Sacha, and Dan, the official podcast serves as the voice of the movement. It provides raw, unfiltered conversations about living with ADHD, harnessing hyperfocus, overcoming trauma, and building mental resilience through physical endurance.

  • Target Audience: Grassroots donors, trade/construction communities (via SD Carpentry LTD), corporate charity sponsors, and endurance sports enthusiasts.
  • Brand Tone: Authentic, grounded, unstoppable, and deeply compassionate.
  • The "Built for What is Next" Pillar: Move from reactive endurance challenges to a sustainable, repeatable fundraising framework that scales to support new charitable partners every year.

How we work

  • The 100% Pass-Through Engine: Public donations never touch administrative hands. Every penny donated goes directly to official charity portals (JustGiving/official pages).
  • Trade-Backed Logistics: Operating expenses, support vehicles, fueling, and recovery gear are fully sponsored by corporate trade partners, local tradespeople, and SD Carpentry LTD.
  • Voluntary Crew Support: The support system—route mapping, physical therapy, live updates, and safety escorts—is run by an organic network of family, friends, and trusted clients.
  • Fortnightly Challenge Cadence: Building continuous momentum by pairing long-term mega-expeditions (like John O'Groats to Leighton Buzzard) with smaller, local fortnightly community physical challenges.

BRAND NARRATIVE

The Narrative Arc: What started as a workplace joke at SD Carpentry LTD—signing up colleagues for charity runs when they offhandedly mentioned an idea—has evolved into a relentless force for good. Powered by the ADHD hyperfocus of Neil Mills, Dan Ellis, and Sacha Fuller, 950mindset proves that keeping your word, pushing past human limits, and standing up for suicide prevention and youth cancer care can change the world. We don't just run miles; we honour promises, build communities, and save lives.

MEDIA RELATIONS STRATEGY

Stay responsive, organised and ready for every opportunity.

  • Grassroots & Regional Press: Target local news outlets across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and along major route stops (e.g., John O'Groats challenge) highlighting the human-interest aspect—a local carpenter running across the country for suicide prevention and cancer support.
  • Podcast & Trade Media Pitching: Secure guest spots on trade/construction podcasts, endurance running outlets, and mental health/neurodiversity shows (focusing on "ADHD as an endurance superpower").
  • Live GPS Tracking & Social Stunts: Leverage live updates (via GPS apps like 360) and raw, daily video logs during extreme runs to build real-time audience engagement and drive live press pickups.

REPUTATION SUPPORT & BRAND PROTECTION

  • Radical Financial Transparency: Maintain clear, public receipts and direct links to official JustGiving/charity pages so every penny raised is traceable.
  • Athlete Safety & Duty of Care: Manage extreme physical risk (e.g., severe injury, infection prevention) through transparent, responsible updates without romanticizing self-harm or unsafe conditions.
  • Partner Alignment: Vetting charity partnerships (like The OLLIE Foundation and Young Lives vs Cancer) to ensure shared values, ground-level impact, and authentic personal alignment.

Reputation support

  • Radical Transparency:
  • Maintain public, audit-ready links for every campaign so donors see real-time progress direct to charities like Young Lives vs Cancer and The OLLIE Foundation.
  • Publish clear disclaimers that 950mindset is a non-commercial charity engine rather than a registered fundraising house taking fees.
  • Athlete Safety & Duty of Care:
  • Injury & Safety Management: Ultra-endurance carries extreme physical risk (e.g., severe foot blistering, exhaustion, infection). While showcasing resilience, public communication balances grit with responsible medical management, showing professional support rather than glorifying unmonitored self-harm.
  • Charity Partner Vetting:
  • Partner exclusively with causes that share ground-level, human-first values. Ensuring personal alignment (such as Neil’s vow to Chris at the gym) keeps the movement authentic and protected from corporate greenwashing.

Project consultation

  • The 950mindset Podcast Platform: Neil, Sacha, and Dan host open discussions and guest episodes focusing on ADHD awareness, mental health in the trades, and suicide prevention.

  • Corporate & Trade Mental Health Workshops: Consulting local businesses and construction firms on how to support neurodiversity (ADHD/ADD) in the workplace while building suicide prevention awareness.

  • Endurance Campaign Blueprinting: Advising individuals and groups on how to structure extreme physical challenges, organize support crews, and secure trade sponsors.

Communication with clarity

Strong public relations is more than visibility. It is the right message, in the right context, reaching the right audience. 950Mindset brings focus to the ideas behind your work so they can travel further.

I first got to know Neil when I interviewed him for *The Bedford Podcast*, and what struck me immediately was his honesty, his determination and his genuine desire to use his own experiences to make a positive difference to others.

Since then, I've remained in contact with Neil and watched with enormous admiration as he completed the extraordinary challenge of running 950 miles in just 21 days for charity. Having heard his story and then watched him put his words into action, I have every confidence in both Neil and what he is now trying to build.

Neil is someone I know, trust and have been genuinely inspired by. His drive isn't about recognition for himself; it's about using challenges to raise money, awareness and support for good causes. That's why I'm also delighted that we'll be working together in the future, including Neil taking on a role at The Bedford Charity Chase.

I believe Neil has the passion, credibility and sheer determination to turn this idea into something very special, and I have absolutely no hesitation in supporting him as he takes the next step.

The Bedford Podcast

I first met Neil while he was fundraising for YLVC during a London to Brighton fundraising event. What began as a fundraising partnership quickly grew into a strong and lasting relationship with Neil and the team at SD Carpentry ltd. They went on to become a valued corporate partner of the charity for over four years, raising over £60k in support of the charities work supporting children and young people with cancer and their families which was driven by Neil and his passion to make a difference.

Throughout the years I worked with Neil, initially in my role as a Fundraising Engagement Manager for the charity and later as a friend after leaving the organisation, I have been continually inspired by his dedication and commitment. Neil has taken on some of the most demanding and extreme fundraising challenges imaginable, always striving to raise as much awareness and funding as possible. Most recently, he completed an extraordinary journey covering more than 950 miles on foot, visiting every one of the YLVC, Homes from Home across the UK and raising over £26k.
With every challenge, Neil has demonstrated remarkable determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to achieving his goals, often exceeding them. His passion for giving back and supporting young people shines through in everything he does, and his enthusiasm inspires those around him to get involved and make a difference.
I am absolutely delighted that Neil is taking this passion a step further by establishing an organisation dedicated to raising funds and awareness for charities free of charge. His wealth of experience, expertise, skills, and genuine commitment to helping others make him uniquely qualified to create meaningful impact across the charity sector. I have no doubt that his new venture will help countless charities reach more people, raise vital funds, and ultimately change lives for the better. Neil's passion is truly infectious, and I can think of no one better placed to lead such an important initiative.

Elena Green

Neil’s 950-mile challenge was a remarkable display of dedication and resilience. Throughout the journey, he embraced every opportunity to bring people together, and he genuinely loved seeing others get involved and support the cause. What stood out most was how deeply moved he was when meeting some of the families supported by Young Lives vs Cancer along the way. Hearing their stories gave even greater meaning to the challenge and reinforced his determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other for children and young people facing cancer.

I met Neil and his amazing friends when I worked as a Fundraiser at Young Lives vs Cancer.

When Elena, his main contact, realised I participated in running events she connected Neil and I. We spent many Sundays in our YLvC vests at a variety of events and I was always impressed by his and the teams focus on making a difference to other people's Iive's. In this case raising a lot of money for children and their families as they face cancer.

On one of the runs he mentioned an idea to do Lands End to John O'groats and by the end, and a chat with Elena, we'd created the concept of the 950. His run around all the charities Home from Home's, where families stay for free during their child's cancer treatment.

Fast forward and we had the pleasure of supporting Neil up to and including during the event. Donning our bright 950 t-shirt and offering support wherever possible.

Neil and the team are simply the most genuine, generous and focused people I have had the honour to meet. Their single-mindedness to make a difference to other people's lives, even at their own discomfort, is admirable.

If you can support them, supporting others, please do.
